MWC 2013Every year Barcelona plays hosts to millions of tourists and events, one of its biggest is the Mobile World Congress. The largest event of its kind in the world, this event has gotten bigger each year and with mobile technology growing faster than ever before, this event plays an increasingly important role in every major manufacturers plans (save Google, Apple, and Microsoft). The MWC is usually reserved for industry professionals and the press, and tickets to entry are not cheap.

Fortunately for me, the awesome people over at Ford were able to get me in the door and view all the latest and greatest from the world of mobile tech. Seeing an opportunity for me and you (my wonderful readers) I decided to take the opportunity to sift through the massive amounts of cool new teach for the most useful gear and gadgets for those on the go.

It Doesn’t Get Easier

Mobile World Congress In the meantime, I want to say this, none of this would have been possible without sticking my neck out and hunting down a pass. Much like coming out to Barcelona in the first place I had to jump outside my comfort zone to accomplish my goals. This got me to thinking about a simple fact of life, it’s never easy.

The last few weeks I have felt off, life some how had lost the spark that was making every second of my life on the road enjoyable. At first I chalked it up to the extraordinary becoming ordinary, then I figured it was because my journey was slowly coming to an end. However, it wasn’t until I went on the hunt for a pass to MWC 2013 that I finally realized what had gone missing. It was the excitement, nervousness, and fear that goes along with stepping outside of your comfort zone.

The thing is we consciously don’t want to dive into the places that we don’t know, we would rather wade in the water slowly, then dive in head first. However, it’s when we do this that life becomes so much more magical and fun. Sure we are half a wreck but we are also on the edge of our seats with excitement. Just like riding the best roller-coasters it’s not until the ride finishes you finally realize there was nothing to fear and only fun to be had.

Into the Void

Moblie World Congress MWC 2013 Sony BoothGoing out on your own and really diving into places that make you uncomfortable will yield some very surprising results, about yourself and the world. Right now I am sitting around at least 100 industry professionals from all over the world. Each one of them most likely has a better education, better job, and certainly more money in the bank. Yet here I sit among them experiencing the same life events and most likely at the same price, free.

I made it to this impossible spot by simply sticking my neck out and asking around for tickets and I plan on finding some more people in the know to see just how deep the rabbit hole really goes. Trying to flip this opportunity for another and another, until I find myself in another impossible position. The fact is that it’s never a good thing to start to coast, sure its ok to take a break, but cruising through life takes all the fun and excitement out of things. Each time we dive into the unknown we hope will be the last time we have to do something that frightening again, but the reality is if we really want to do the things that we want in life it’s not just necessary its required.

Enjoy the Ride

When we look back on our lives will we be proud of the fact that we always played it safe and stayed between the lines. Is that the story that you want the world to know you by? We all have dreams and most of them are impossible ones. The thing is that they aren’t impossible we just decided they were and gave them up, many times before we even started. Travel is just like life, the best discoveries are the ones you have to stick your neck out to find.

There are always a thousand reasons not to do something, but instead of focusing on all of those try focusing on the one reason why you should. The world is big place, big enough for all of us to follow our own path and achieve our dreams. All it takes is a leap of faith and an unrelenting attitude to succeed.
